Island-Hopping the BVI

Carl Hill JrFounder, Atlas Indeed August 2, 20263 min read

The British Virgin Islands got luxury right every single time. That was the sentence I kept writing in my notes as our team moved between four islands, four properties, and four completely different ideas of what a perfect week means.

The mistake would be staying on one island. Here is the route.

Peter Island, renewed

Freshly rebuilt after the hurricane years, Peter Island feels new because it is. Rooms open onto the beach, the dock takes your yacht if you brought one, and locals ferry over from other islands for dinner and the entertainment. It is the social start of the week: secluded when you want it, lively when you do not.

Guana, the home

30 or 40 guests at most, snorkeling straight off the dock, and an honor bar that stays open all day: make your own mimosa, leave the dishes. Guana leans all the way into feeling like a house that happens to own an island. Iguanas included.

Oil Nut Bay, the playground

Larger, grander, and built for families and honeymooners at once: flamingos and goats for the kids, secluded view suites for the couples, a restaurant sitting on the dock, and a massage pavilion with a glass floor over the ocean. Face down becomes the best view in the house.

Aerial, barefoot

The perfect ending: barefoot luxury on Buck Island, where beachfront rooms trade air conditioning for a permanent sea breeze, the menu comes off the property’s own farm, and the evenings offer night kayaking or nothing at all, whichever you need more.

Each island had something different. The service was always great, but the way it felt to be on each one, that was the discovery.

Good questions

Which BVI island is best for couples?

Guana Island and Aerial BVI for seclusion and romance; Oil Nut Bay if you want resort polish with privacy. Many couples split the week across two.

How do you get between the islands?

Private boat transfers, arranged in advance. Distances are short, and the crossings are part of the pleasure.

When should you visit the BVI?

November through May for dry, settled weather. It remains one of the Caribbean’s least crowded luxury destinations year-round.
