Lapland is the northernmost region of Finland and an active outdoor destination that’s known for its incredible, year-round light phenomena, vast arctic nature, and Santa Claus, of course. The land of the indigenous Sámi people, known as Sámi homeland or Sápmi, also crosses the northern part of the region. Owing to its location above the Arctic Circle, you can probably find just about any winter activity you can think of here, including reindeer and dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing and snowshoeing.

Jávri Lodge is a boutique hotel in the small village of Saariselkä, which lies in the far north of Finland, 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. This charming Lappish‐style hotel is a tranquil, aesthetically pleasing home away from home. The location of Jávri is at the doorsteps to the trails and adventures in the National Park – is ideal for those seeking to experience untouched nature, to glimpse the Northern Lights, to hibernate in winter’s cold and darkness and to awaken once more in the never‐setting sun as summer replaces winter. Dinner is a five‐ to seven‐course extravaganza, showcasing wild fish, matsutake and other local mushrooms, berries and other local organic delicacies, paired with exquisite wines from small European vineyards. Maybe a matsutake gnocchi and king crab tortellini one night; reindeer tartar, lamb filet and cloudberry sorbet another. Dining is always a creative and tasty surprise, depending on the season and availability, and otherwise only limited by the chef’s imagination. Here, you get to share the passion for our environment and love of good food – and, most importantly, to enjoy all of this without hurry and at peace.

Let us take you hiking through the white wilderness for a chance to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Even when the skies are cloudy and conditions aren’t right, the winter skies are always worth gazing at while in the Arctic wilderness.

Two people will be sharing one sleigh; you sit down, lean back ,and relax. You will meet a Sámi reindeer herder family and hear about their life while you have a cup of coffee and eat homemade buns.
